emotional stress in a postmenopausal woman

Abstract: Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a rare cause of acute myocardial infarction. While its etiology and
pathogenesis remain not fully understood, SCAD occurs most frequently in patients at a young age and of a female gender. We
report a case of SCAD in a 52-year-old healthy postmenopausal woman who developed acute myocardial infarction and
subsequent ventricular aneurysm after emotional stress. This case may provide valuable insight into this rare disease and
highlights the importance of psychological factors as contributing factors of SCAD in postmenopausal women with acute onset
of chest pain.
