Abstract: Objective To find a more reliable and effective localization method for collagenase injection through the lateral crypt for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. Methods Before collagenase injection for lumbar disc chemonucleolysis, the site with obvious tenderness was labeled with a lead marker on the surface of the intervertebral space, followed by a more accurate localization with the assistance of X-ray, chest fluoroscopy and CT. Results Satisfactory results were achieved in 88.3% of the cases using the new localization method, with an overall improvement rate of 95.9%, which were 10.5% and 6.7% higher than those of cases without using the method. Conclusion Localization with lead markers in combination with X-ray, chest fluoroscopy and CT is more accurate, safe, economic and effective for collagenase injection through the lateral crypt in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation.
